Data Disposal

We all practice elements of data security. At home, for example, we make sure that deeds and insurance documents are kept safely so that they are available when we need them. Your company information deserves to be treated in the same way. In business, having the right information at the right time can make the difference between profit and loss, success and failure. Data Security will help you control and secure information from inadvertent or malicious changes and deletions or unauthorized disclosure. There are three aspects of data security:

Confidentiality: Protecting information from unauthorised disclosure, perhaps to a competitor, to the press, or through improper disposal techniques.

Integrity: Protecting information from unauthorised modification, and ensuring that information, such as a price list, can be relied upon and is accurate and complete.

Availability: Ensuring information is available when you need it. Data can be held in many different areas, some of these are:

Network Servers
Personal Computers and Workstations
Laptop and Handheld PCs
Removable Storage Media (Floppy Disks, CD-ROMS, Zip Disks, etc.)
Data Backup Media (Tapes and Optical Disks)

Recommended Products for secure deletion:

Disk Wipe

Meets The Department of Defense 5220-22M Standard for Sanitizing Drives:
"Non-Removable Rigid Disks" or hard drives must be sanitized for reuse by
"Overwriting all addressable locations with a character, its complement, then
a random character and verify."

Disk Wipe is a Utility which will completely overwrite and destroy all existing data on a hard disk. Every physical byte of the disk will be overwritten. This program will permanently erase and destroy all data! You may overwrite the disk as many times as you like so conforming to US Department of Defense requirements will not be a problem.

The time eventually comes where many corporations are faced with having to return or trade their leased computers. Many of these systems have hard drives with data which the corporations do not want to be seen by others. Once Disk Wipe has been run, all data from every sector will have been eliminated. Disk Wipe makes what would have taken hours, a job that can be done in minutes.

Secure Delete

If you just want to securely delete some files look at our Secure Delete.

Secure Delete is a very powerful and easy to use utility. You simply find the file you want to erase and click on 'Destroy File'. It will then confirm with you to make sure you want to destroy the file. Once the file has been destroyed there is no way to undo the deletion or to recover the file.
